In this workshop we will work on movement and composition from the inside out, focusing on improvisation as a tool for increasing awareness and choice. We will begin with a heating technician, using both ground work and standing, emphasizing integration body, the positioning of the weight, energy and the clear beginning of the movement. The heating system consists of fixed and improvised exercises and varies in intensity from very simple to the complex. After the warm-up exercises will work instant composition with attention to the relationship between improvisation and choreography, examining ideas composition such as drawing in space, theme and variation, length and arrangement. In particular, we consider improvisation as a tool for the performance of the group, not only to generate the kinetic material.
Short exercises will begin the process of creating a performance together through improvisation, defining a specific conceptual framework, challenges and providing basic skills.
From these basic skills of composition we will venture into more complex and lengthy improvisations in which the work done will be continually challenged by the extreme possibilities and options that improvisation generates.

MO VEMENT AWARENESS AND INSTANT COMPOSITION
with VINCENT CACIALANO (11.00 – 14.00)

In this workshop we will approach moving and composing from the inside out, focusing on Improvisation as a tool for greater awareness and option. We will begin with a technical warm up, utilizing both floor and standing work, that focuses on body integration, weight placement, stamina and clear initiation of movement. The warm up involves set and improvised exercises and varies in intensity from the very simple to the complex. It focuses on how basic movement patterns set the framework for more complex understanding. After the warm up we will work on Instant Composition exercises that focus on the relationship of Improvisation and Choreography, looking at compositional devises such as design, theme and variation, duration and arrangement. The approach to Improvisation specifically looks at Improvisation as an approach to performing in ensemble, not only as a tool for generating movement material. Short exercises will initiate the process of creating ensemble dance pieces through improvisation, setting up a specific conceptual framework, offering challenges and basic skills. From these basic composing skills we will venture into more complex and longer improvisations where the basic ground work we have set up is challenged by the extreme possibilities and options that Improvisation allows.
